My Ahmedabad 4 day Itinerary

October 11, 2019 by Nitin Singhal 18 Comments

Ahmedabad 4 day itinerary | How to spend 4 days in Ahmedabad | Things to do in Ahmedabad in 4 days | Places to visit in Ahmedabad in 4 days | What to do in Ahmedabad in 4 days #Ahmedabad #Gujarat #India #Itinerary

I undertook Ahmedabad trip in 2017 fall with my sister and her family. We were planning to go on a short trip for a long time. We were not interested in going to a hill station and were looking for a destination that could be fully explored in 4 days at a medium pace.

And Ahmedabad perfectly fit into that. Ahmedabad is the biggest city of Gujarat and is an economic and industrial hub of India. Ahmedabad is a perfect blend of big city life with tradition, history and rich heritage.

If you are planning to go to Ahmedabad, here is my Ahmedabad 4 day itinerary to help you what to do (or not to do).

Flight: We had booked evening flights (departing at around 7 ) from Delhi so that we could utilize 4 days to the maximum without sacrificing the office work on the departure date.

Stay at Regenta Central Antrim :  3-star hotel situated at a central location in Ahmedabad. This is a gorgeous hotel with courteous staff and impeccable service. Most of the sightseeing places are within a few kms of the hotel. We had booked a family room having 2 queen beds for 4 nights for Rs 3500 per night. Stay was worth every penny we spent. It was definitely a steal for this price considering the star rating and service.

Flight to Ahmedabad was delayed by more than 4 hours due to smog and closure of one of the 3 runways at Delhi Airport. Reached hotel at around 1 past midnight and retired straightaway.

Table of Contents

  • 1 Day-1
    • 1.1 Gujarat Science City
    • 1.2 Boating at Sabarmati Riverfront

    • 2.2 Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial
    • 2.3 Auto World Vintage car museum
    • 2.4 Relax at Riverfront Park
  • 3 Day-3
    • 3.1 Kankaria Lake
    • 3.2 Vechaar museum
  • 4 Day-4
    • 4.1 Hathee Singh Jain Temple
    • 4.2 Dada Hari Ni Vav
    • 4.3 Vaishnodevi Temple
  • 5 What could have been done differently?
  • 6 Final Thoughts

Day-1

Gujarat Science City

We had planned a full day in Gujarat Science city and hoped to enjoy thrill ride/simulator, science and space exhibits and 3-d shows. Instead, we got the lacklustre staff, who were not ready to start rides and shows citing minimum person requirement. We going on weekdays could also have been a reason of low crowd, but that being said, still doesn’t justify staff’s behaviour to deny us rides and shows. Spent a total of 3 hours and left the place after lunch.

Boating at Sabarmati Riverfront

We took uber to Sabarmati Riverfront for boating and some quiet time. Uber driver dropped us at Flower garden which was quite far from boating point. Reached boating point after asking people for direction and wandering for around 30 minutes for some motorboat ride experience.
Afterwards, we sat on a bench for around 30 minutes looking at the tranquillity of Sabarmati while eating ice-cream.

Eat and shop at Manek Chowk

Took Uber to Manek Chowk for some mouth-watering and finger-licking Indian chats (Dabelis is a must-try) and some shopping. Manek Chowk is primarily a jewellery market in the morning, and eateries are opened in the night only. So, plan to go on the night only to experience chats.

Day-2

Sabarmati Ashram

This is must visit place in Ahmedabad. We were brought face to face with the life of Mahatma Gandhi; his education, struggles, disappointment, failure, achievement. It was serene to spend some time looking at Sabarmati River afterwards.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial

This is another must-visit sight. I was amazed by the use of technology to showcase the life of Sardar Patel. It was fun, informative and interactive.

Auto World Vintage car museum

After taking 40 minutes cab ride, we reached the car museum. It is located a bit far from the city centre. Museum boasts the collection of around 100 cars of early and mid 20th century from the likes of Rolls Royce, Bentley, Ford; would be very exciting for car lovers.
There are some thrill rides and a train ride outside the museum, primarily for small children. My niece loved every part of it and had a cute smile throughout. If you have got small kids, do take them for rides. After all, they also deserve some fun time after being dragged from one museum to others.

Relax at Riverfront Park

We had some spare time in the evening; went to Riverfront Park; sat on the grass and loved the quiet time. I was overjoyed by the ecstatic view of Sabarmati River in the moonlight. Sabarmati looks even more beautiful at night.

Day-3

Kankaria Lake

Kankaria Lake Front is developed around the lake which hosts multiple attractions like the zoo, mini-golf, balloon safari, Water Park and much more. We had a great time playing mini-golf, doing treetop adventures, walking alongside beautiful butterflies. This place is for both adult and children alike. My niece was happiest of all days spent in Ahmedabad, and this was by far the best hours of the trip for all of us as well. We could only spend half a day there as we had planned to visit a museum as well, but we could have easily spent a full day there if we had time.

Vechaar museum

Vechaar is a unique museum having a huge collection of utensils of the medieval era. We had a wonderful experience; it was fun to imagine the purpose and use of utensils in that era.

Day-4

We had our return flight to Delhi at 4:30 in the evening. So, we had 3-4 hrs to visit other attractions.

Hathee Singh Jain Temple

Took a quick look around the temple to see the architecture.

Dada Hari Ni Vav

It is a stepwell built in the 15th century. It is reduced to a mere old structure without proper maintenance. Took a quick look around and clicked some pictures and moved to our final destination.

Vaishnodevi Temple

We had still some time left before our flight. So we decided to go to Vaishnodevi temple; spent a total of an hour there to see the whole temple.

What could have been done differently?

We had a pretty satisfying Ahmedabad trip. There was not much we would have changed, other than a couple of things:

  • Full day at Kankaria Lake
  • Half-day at Science city on the weekend. Or maybe we could have skipped it and instead done other things.

Final Thoughts

We had a fantastic time at Ahmedabad. Yes, there were few disappointments but then which trip doesn’t have those. Also the joy and bliss we experienced there far outweighed the disappointments. We went on a journey to our nation’s glorious and valour past through museums; had fun activities in Kankaria Lakefront; walked along the riverfront and experienced the serenity of Sabarmati river. To say that Ahmedabad was the one which gave me wanderlust won’t be wrong.

    Hi Nitin,

Thank you for sharing your well-planned itinerary.
As an Ahmedabadi, it’s heartening to see someone appreciate the beauty of our city and I’m glad that despite the hiccup at Science City you found the rest of your journey wonderful. It’s great to see our city’s spots highlighted on your blog 🙂

A wonderful guide and I especially liked the Hathee Singh Jain Temple architecture – I can easily spend hours exploring this incredible place. Oh plus, I like the vintage car exhibition too.

I love the museum and the historical sites, but I think I’ll add more things for the kids to do. The food looks delicious, and thanks for sharing your final thoughts and insights after all your visit here it will help us to think of our option.

It’s unfortunate that your trip started off so terribly. Gujarat Science City sounds like it had so much potential. You did a great job making the rest of the trip successful. It looks like you were all able to have a great time!

It’s great that the rest of your trip was better than the visit to Gujarat Science City, especially the market food at night in Manek Chowk!.

It’s great to hear the rest of your trip went well after the rubbish start at Gujarat Science City! It sounds like you had a fab time by Kankaria lake, and the food in Ahmedabad looks really tasty!

Thanks, Josy. Kankaria Lake was incredible. The only regret I have is that I could not give Kankaria Lake a full day. There are huge number of things to do in Kankaria Lake it is near impossible to fully explore the park in half day.
