The name Kankaria Lake Front doesn’t exactly scream ‘fun family destination’ where people of all ages can enjoy and have a great time. When I first read the name, I thought that this would be just a minor upgrade to the Dussehra festival carnival, which Indians are used to.
But I couldn’t have been more wrong. There is a common saying that “Never judge a book by its cover”. And here I judged a place by its name. I thought Kankaria Lake Front would be just a picnic spot with few uninteresting and not-so-maintained activities.
About Kankaria Lake Front

Kankaria Lake is the largest lake in Ahmedabad. While it was originally developed in 2008 as a bustling hub for water sports and adventure, my recent visit during Christmas in 2025 revealed that the park has undergone a massive shift compared to my first visit in late 2017. Many of the old adventure activities have been permanently phased out to make room for newer, modern family-centric attractions like a Glass Tower Skywalk and a dedicated Dinosaur Park.
Kankaria Lake Front Attractions
It was the 3rd day of our Ahmedabad trip in 2017. I along with my sister, brother-in-law and 2-year-old niece took a cab and reached there at 10 in the morning. We had planned to stay there for half a day. As we were not too excited about visiting Kankaria Lake Front, we had not pre-selected any activities, instead decided to choose activities as they come.
Butterfly Park
The first attraction we saw was Butterfly Park. We went there and circled the park and saw some pretty butterflies. Little away from there was a zoo, and being someone who loves animals I wanted to go there, but others were not interested. We gave it a miss. I didn’t visit it again during my 2nd visit.

Mini Golf

After that, it was time for some mini-golf. As we had never played golf or mini golf, we were thrilled to try it out. It took 1 or 2 tries to understand the stance and the right speed to hit the ball. Seeing us play, my niece also got excited and started insisting to play. She was not able to lift the club but she wanted to play anyway. So, my sister helped her in picking the club and gliding the ball. It was a lot of fun and gave us tons of entertaining moments.
Update 2026: It was a major highlight of my first trip in 2017. Returning in late 2025, however, was incredibly disappointing. The entire course looked severely neglected and uncleaned. The golf clubs themselves were rusty and worn out, looking as if they hadn’t been replaced since the park first opened a decade ago. Hardly anyone visits this section anymore, and it has unfortunately lost all its charm.
Tree walk

Adjacent to the mini-golf, there was a Treetop activity. We opted for the single loop which is basically a walk from one tree to other. Seeing us do that, my niece started to cry as she also wanted to do that. That day, I realized that the kids want to emulate their elders, no matter what and that too without anybody’s help. After some consoling, she stopped crying and we went to a small eatery joint for some light snacks.
Update 2026: Much like the mini-golf, the Tree Walk was in a completely run-down condition and honestly looked dangerous to use. It really should be closed down for safety reasons instead of continuing to operate in this state.
Segway & Water Zorbing (Permanently Closed)
If you are visiting Kankaria specifically for the Segway rides or the water zorbing experience I wrote about in my initial review, please note that these activities are no longer available. The giant inflatable zorbing orbs and the Segway tracks have been completely removed from the lakefront loop.

Speed Boating & Arcade Baby Car Rides (Discontinued)

The exhilarating 4-minute speedboat rides and the classic indoor arcade baby car rides that my niece loved have also been permanently discontinued. The water activities have been scaled back significantly, and the old arcade room has been entirely replaced by a newer complex.
Mini Train
Kankaria has mini train ride which circles around the lake after every 30 minutes. We took train tickets and boarded the train. It was comical to see the Ticket Collector (TC) checking the tickets as if it were a real train journey.

What’s New at Kankaria Lake Front (2026 Update)
To make up for the closed adventure sports, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has introduced a few major modern landmarks to the lakefront complex.
The Glass Tower with Skywalk
This is the new crown jewel of Kankaria. It features a soaring glass-bottom structure that lets you walk high above the park, offering incredible, panoramic aerial views of the entire circular lake and the Ahmedabad skyline. It is easily the most popular spot for photography now.

One thing I didn’t like is that sitting or lying down on the glass was strictly prohibited, with the staff claiming it was dangerous. This argument felt completely nonsensical to me; since your full body weight is already being exerted while standing, sitting or lying down won’t suddenly make you heavier! I have visited famous skywalks in Pelling (Sikkim, India), Bangkok (Thailand), and Chongqing (China), and nowhere else was I ever stopped from sitting or lying down to take photos.
Balvatika Park

The Balvatika kids’ zone has received a massive upgrade since my last visit in 2017.
Dino Park

Dino Park features life-sized, interactive animatronic dinosaur models that are a massive hit with young kids.
The New Arcade Room
While the old baby car rides are gone, a completely revamped, modern indoor arcade gaming zone has been built nearby, featuring upgraded virtual reality (VR) games and newer redemption machines.
While the classic adventure activities have changed and some older zones feel neglected, Kankaria Lake Front remains an incredibly budget-friendly family day out. While our 2017 trip cost us just ₹2,100 (incl. food) for 3 Adults, current entry fees for the newer Glass Tower and Dino Park additions mean you should budget a bit more for the experience, though it remains highly accessible for all travelers.

I am usually not one for amusement parks but this one is altogether different. I can envision myself doing many of the activities offered Katankaria Lake Front, like the tree walk, segway, and water zorbing. Speed boating would be exhilarating, too! What a unique set of experiences. You’ve changed this scaredy-cat’s perspective–I’ll try it!.
What a great way to spend a day with family and friends. I would love to give the Segway a go and mini golf is always fun. The lake looks lovely too.
Oh wow! It sounds like a day filled with all kinds of fun stuff to do. I could just see myself taking a walk along the lake and among the trees. However, the best of all, might be the water zorbing!
Wow, what an eventful day. The water zorbing sounds fun.
The Segway tour looks amazing. And I agree – never judge a book by its cover. Turned out to be a great trip!
Oooh isn’t it awesome when a place surpasses all of your expectations!? Kankaria Lake Front looks like a great place to relax for a day. I’d love to try the water zorbing, and step up on that treetop walk!!
